Higher and Higher

One of my favorite songs from back in the day was an R&B cut by the renowned Jackie Wilson. It was titled: ”(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher.”

I first saw Jackie Wilson at a famous Chicago Regal Theatre on the Southside. I was much younger than most in the crowd, but I was hanging out with some of the big kids and this was the first time I witnessed firsthand the power of love on such a grand scale. I had never seen thousands of teen-aged girls swooning before and Jackie Wilson surely had the “knockout power!”

These girls were screaming fanatically and falling out all over themselves as he sang:

“Your love keeps lifting me higher - Then I've ever been lifted before”

As I think back on that day as I witnessed the magical power of Loves effect on the human psyche, I think of the Science of Mind perspective on Love which teaches:

“Love is the self-givingness of Universal Spirit through its desire to express itself in terms of creation. Love is the impulse and Law is the way of creation.”

Love is Spirit and the Law is the Way.

To live from a place of Love is liberating and creates Peace in our world. It allows us to feel that “It’s all right, even when it’s all wrong” because we know what the “end game” is. For God always wins. No matter what.

When we are living our lives based on an unshakable belief in One Power then we are willing to submit to the inconvenience of doubt (This is not looking like it will end well, says the mind) suspense (Will God show up in this situation?) and examination (Wait, what!? What do I know to be true?)

The Science of Mind book states:

"We experience good and evil because we perceive a presence of duality instead of unity."

So we are really believing in 2 Powers. God and….that Other Power. Which doesn’t exist, except in our minds. Because we believe in it the Universe says, “yes”. Jesus the Master Teacher taught us,” It is Done unto you, as you believe.”

Our philosophy constantly reminds us what Ernest Holmes taught:

“Do you realize that your Karma is nothing more than your false thinking and that the only way to escape is to think the truth, and that brings with it the higher law? When the oldest enters, the youngest leaves because there is nothing to give him life. The past is gone when we learn to forgive and forget."

Allowing Spirits’ Love to Break the chains of karma occurs through exercising the Power of Divine Love within us: To transcend karma, pray without ceasing to disappear into the situation, stop having an opinion about what is happening, stop stating my point of view, and simply play my role in the situation; to realize how I can contribute for the Greater Good, for the greater good of ONENESS.

Another way of saying this is that I have the right to remain silent and I do NOT have to have an opinion.

In the Freedom to Choose prison project we share a skill called – “I hear you, I hear what you are saying.” It’s an objective perspective that says I don’t choose to agree or disagree for in that incarcerated environment either position can breed and grow conflict.

In the free world, the conflict we experience is our own karmic upset. We suffer because our inner “crazy roommate” is obsessed with filling our consciousness with “That’s Just Wrong! Why is it that way? It Shouldn’t be that way!”

Hence the cause of our mental suffering.

Joel S. Goldsmith reminds us that:

It is possible for anyone to change the trend of his/her life, not by hearing or reading truth, but by making it an active part of consciousness in daily experience, until it becomes a habit every moment of the day, instead of an occasional thought.” Joel S. Goldsmith


It is what it is, that’s all that it is. If I can accept it as being what it is, then I can enter into the lifting of the Loving - which “lifts me Higher and Higher than I’ve ever been lifted before.”

Many of you know I am building a house in our backyard. The windows were due to be installed last Friday, then Monday and then…the builder was informed that the person who was placing the order into the system, well, made an error. The windows were not ordered and would not be arriving for two more weeks!

It was a challenge to silence my inner crazy roommate. I know you can imagine what he was saying. I doubled up on my inner spiritual work to just allow the situation to be what it was. It came to me in meditation that “it’s not over until it’s over” and I felt hope rising up within as I heard the inner voice say, “ can’t wait to see how Spirit will “pull a rabbit out of the hat!”

I know that my inner peace is worth more than being right. I continued to exercise dominion in my consciousness reminding myself there is no value in “I’m Upset Because…”

Well, guess what? The Light of God Never Fails (thank you St Germaine!)

Today (one day later) the builder says to me, “ Mr. Mike I have good news. The vendor says that they are going to expedite the windows. They will be here either today or tomorrow!”

Coincidence? What do you think?

I believe that “Coincidence” really means the Divine is “co-inciding” in the event and creating the miraculous experience we see as synchronicity. What I see as a miracle is really Divine Order taking place when I can get myself out of the way and allow Divine Right Action to do what it is always doing.

Eckhart Tolle puts it another way: “The key to transformation is to make friends with this moment. What form it takes doesn´t matter. Say yes to it. Allow it. Be with it.”
