Chains We Cannot See

Not every chain is made of iron.

Some chains are invisible. They are forged from fear, old beliefs, painful memories, limiting stories, inherited assumptions, and unconscious habits of thought. We cannot touch them, yet they shape our choices. We cannot see them, yet they quietly determine what we believe is possible.

The greatest prison is often the one we carry in our own consciousness.

This week, I invite us to consider one of the greatest spiritual gifts we have been given: awareness. Awareness is the anti-Thought Virus software built into our minds. Just as a computer scans for harmful programs before they can corrupt a system, spiritual awareness detects the unhealthy thoughts that attempt to hijack our peace, our joy, and our freedom.

Every day our minds are exposed to countless messages. Some inspire faith, courage, and creativity. Others spread the mental virus of fear, scarcity, resentment, shame, and doubt. If we are not paying attention, we unconsciously download these thought viruses until they begin running in the background of our lives.

Soon we find ourselves worrying.

Worry is more than anxious thinking. It is blind faith in the worst possible outcome. It is imagination turned against itself.

The beautiful truth is that the very mind power that creates worry is also the power that creates our freedom.

Ernest Holmes reminds us:

"Change your thinking, change your life."

Within each of us lives the divine faculty of imagination. Imagination is not merely fantasy; it is one of God's creative powers expressing through us. It allows us to see beyond appearances, beyond yesterday's disappointments, beyond inherited limitations. It gives us the ability to envision a future that is not dictated by the past.

As Holmes taught, "It is through the activity of our mind—the utilization of mental, psychical, and moral disciplines—that the human being becomes oriented to a state of consciousness we call future, the freedom from the past."

Notice what he is saying. Freedom is not primarily a change of circumstances. Freedom is a change of consciousness.

Liberation begins the moment we become aware of the thoughts we have accepted without question.

Awareness asks:

  • Is this thought true?

  • Does this belief expand my life or imprison it?

  • Does this thought express fear, or does it express Love?

  • Is this old programming, or is this the living truth of my spiritual nature?

Every fearful thought is an invitation to awaken.

Every limiting belief is an opportunity to remember who we really are.

We are not victims of yesterday's programming. We are not condemned to repeat yesterday's story. We are creative beings made in the image and likeness of Infinite Spirit. We possess the God-given ability to choose again.

When awareness recognizes a thought virus, we don't fight it. We simply refuse to install it. Instead, we consciously replace it with truth.

Where fear predicts failure, imagination sees possibility.

Where worry rehearses disaster, faith rehearses victory.

Where memory repeats limitation, awareness remembers our divine identity.

This is the practice of liberation.

The chains we cannot see lose their power the moment they are brought into the light of awareness.

Once we recognize them, we discover they were never stronger than the Presence of God within us.

This week, become the guardian of your own consciousness. Pay attention to the conversations taking place within your mind. Before accepting any thought, ask yourself:

Is this thought making me more free?

If not, let it go.

Your awareness is stronger than fear.

Your imagination is greater than your past.

Your true nature has always been free.

Your Affirmations for this week:

I am aware of every thought that does not serve my highest good, and I lovingly replace it with the truth of my divine freedom.

My imagination is guided by Spirit. I envision possibilities greater than my fears, and I joyfully create a future filled with peace, purpose, and love.

I am free from the invisible chains of the past. I live from the limitless Presence of God within me, and every day I awaken to greater freedom, wisdom, and joy.

Liberation is not waiting for the world to change. Liberation begins the moment awareness reveals that the only chains with power are the ones we continue to believe in.

Remember that we are surrounded by the Blessings of Freedom,

RevMichael (Kisumma)
