Opening the Floodgates: The Sacred Flow

Have you ever seen a pond with no outlet? It looks peaceful at first. Then the water goes still, and then stagnant. Life was never meant to be dammed. This week in our dialogue on Eric Butterworth’s Spiritual Economics, we ask: what if the thing we hold tightest is the very thing blocking the flow?
Last week we remembered that Spirit is our one Source and that every paycheck is simply a channel. So what do we do with the flow? We let it circulate.
The Law of Circulation
Butterworth teaches that substance is always moving. Prosperity isn’t a pile to protect. It’s a current to join. Giving doesn’t drain the Source. It keeps the channel open. In his hands, tithing is not a bill or an obligation. It is spiritual training, a way to practice trusting abundance instead of gripping it out of fear.
Fear or Overflow?
Two people can write the same check. One gives from fear: “I’d better, so nothing goes wrong,” or “I should.” The hand is clenched even while it gives. The other gives from overflow: “I give because I already have.” The amount is the same, but the consciousness is not. The practice of giving moves us from the first to the second.
A House on a Napkin
In 2021, at my birthday dinner, my wife and I sketched a house on a napkin, a new home for our oldest daughter and grandson in our backyard. Then came the question every dreamer hears: “How are we going to pay for it?”
That is a fear question. It stares at the channel and counts. We could have folded the napkin and put it away. Instead, we said yes. We said it inwardly first, before we had a single answer.
Then Spirit opened the way. The finished plans were done in 60 days. Plan check approval came six weeks later. We broke ground on June 1. By Christmas of that same year, our daughter and grandson were living in their new home.
This wasn’t magic. We still drew the plans, filed for the permits, and built. But the yes came first: the shift from “How will we afford it?” to “Spirit, show us the way.” Spirit does the work when we do the inner work.
Your Practice This Week
Choose one act of giving and do it with full attention and no strings attached.
Pause before you give and say, “I give from overflow.”
Notice your body. Does it feel tight or open? Let that be your teacher.
Your Invitation
As we celebrate Abundant Living, Abundant Giving, I invite you to prayerfully consider your pledge. It’s not a quota. It’s a yes, an open hand and a trust that the river runs through you.
Our pledge goal for 2027 is 75 givers and we have 11 signed up so far. Should we be concerned?Absolutely not. Spirit does the work when we do the Inner Work. Last year we started on a journey to create a licensed kitchen and it has been quite the challenge to serve as your project manager and minister for this past year. But this week we received our first rental from a local candy company that needs a licensed prep kitchen! AND HERE WE ARE!
No pledge is too small (or too large!) Our pledge campaign has 2 more weeks to go. Help Ahiah in its mission to uplift hearts, expand minds, and nurture souls!
Your Affirmations for the Week
The floodgates of good are always open in me.
I give freely, I receive gladly!
I open my floodgates and I trust the sacred flow.
Remind yourself every day that we are surrounded by infinite Blessings,
RevMichael (Kisumma)
