Embodying the Overflow

“We become what we contemplate.”
— Ernest Holmes, This Thing Called You
There is a quiet but profound difference between believing in abundance and living abundantly.
Many of us have spent years with these spiritual principles. We know the affirmations by heart. We understand the Law of Cause and Effect. We have read the books, sat in the classes, and prayed more prayers than we could ever count. And still, the invitation in front of us is larger than understanding Truth. It is to become the Truth we profess.
That is the heart of our August theme: Embodiment.
Holmes taught that our sustained attention is never passive — it forms us. Whatever holds our gaze eventually shapes our consciousness, and our consciousness shapes our experience. Contemplate fear, scarcity, and limitation long enough and they begin to color everything we see. But contemplate Divine Love, Infinite Possibility, Joy, Peace, and Abundance, and those qualities slowly become the very air we breathe.
This is where overflow begins.
Not in our bank account.
Not in our circumstances.
Not in someone else’s approval.
Overflow begins in consciousness.
Yeshua ben Joseph the Master Teacher, who Science of Mind recognizes as the Great Wayshower, said he came “so that we might have life, and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). He was not promising a life without difficulty. He was revealing the nature of Spirit itself. Divine Life is always expressing as expansion, creativity, healing, generosity, wisdom, and love. And because we are individualized expressions of that One Life, abundance is not something we must earn. It is something we awaken to.
So the question is not whether abundance exists.
The question is whether we are willing to embody it.
The question is do we realize that “What’s thought about, comes about?”
To embody the overflow is to let our thoughts, our words, our actions, and our relationships become consistent with what we say we believe. It means speaking words that bless instead of words that diminish. It means choosing gratitude before the evidence shows up. It means trusting the invisible movement of Spirit even when visible conditions are slow to change.
Faith is never passive.
Faith has feet.
Faith smiles.
Faith forgives.
Faith serves.
Faith gives.
Faith shows up.
That is embodiment.
A Getaway to the Gateway
This past weekend, I watched embodiment happen right in front of me.
Our community gathered for a Saturday retreat led by our beloved Rev. Dr. Nicole, and something shifted the moment people set their bags down. You could see shoulders drop. You could hear the exhale. Folks who arrived carrying deadlines, grief, and the low hum of a hard season found themselves sitting in a circle with people who had no agenda except to be present with them.
There was stillness. There was laughter — the kind that surprises you, that comes up from somewhere underneath the exhaustion. There were meals shared slowly, without anyone checking the time. There were tears that no one rushed to fix. Rev. Dr. Nicole held that space with such grace that people who came in as strangers left as family, and people who came in depleted left restored.
I found myself calling it a “Getaway to the Gateway.”
Because the timing was no accident. This coming Saturday, August 8, the heavens open what many traditions call the Lions Gate portal — an energetic event associated with heightened alignment, courage, and new beginnings. Whatever language you use for it, the invitation is the same: step through. Leave something behind. Carry something new.
But here is what I want you to hear. You cannot walk through a gateway carrying everything you have been dragging. That is what the getaway was for. We rested so we could rise. We released so we could receive. We reconnected with each other so that when the door opens, we walk through it together.
That is the Sacred Overflow made visible — not a concept, but a room full of people who came home to themselves.
And if you could not join us, hear this: we are producing another retreat in September. What’s more we plan to do them monthly to bring us together for greater connection, community and healing. The gateway does not close behind the first group through it. Watch for the details, and this time, come join in.
The Mirror Does Not Smile First
Holmes described life as a mirror. Imagine standing in front of one, waiting for your reflection to smile before you do. It never will. The mirror only returns what is already there.
Life works much the same way. It reflects the consciousness we consistently hold.
When we become more loving, we begin to notice more love.
When we become more grateful, we recognize blessings that were there the whole time.
When we become more generous, we discover that life is astonishingly generous in return.
The mirror is not judging us.
It is simply reflecting us.
What We Are Building Together
This truth reaches past our individual lives. It shapes who we are as a spiritual community.
Here at AHIAH, we are not merely running programs or completing projects. We are cultivating a consciousness. Every new ministry, every prayer circle, every youth gathering, every meal that will come out of our soon-to-open certified commercial kitchen, every act of service, every volunteer hour, every financial gift, every welcoming embrace — all of it is one larger demonstration. We are embodying a vision of a community where Spirit becomes visible through people who choose love over fear and possibility over limitation.
As we continue our Year of Living in Sacred Overflow, we are also laying down old beliefs about lack.
We refuse to measure our future by yesterday’s limitations. We affirm together that Infinite Spirit is the Source of every idea, every opportunity, every partnership, every resource, and every blessing our sacred mission requires. Our prosperity is not rooted in circumstance. It is rooted in Consciousness.
Your Practice This Week
I invite you to pay close attention to what you are contemplating.
What conversations are shaping your awareness?
What stories are you telling yourself about what is possible?
What dreams have you quietly talked yourself out of?
Then ask, gently and honestly: If I truly believed that God is my Source, how would I think today? How would I speak? How would I give? How would I love? How would I serve?
Those answers are your spiritual practice.
Because overflow is not merely having more.
Overflow is becoming more of who God created you to be.
May we become people whose lives preach louder than our words.
May our peace calm anxious hearts.
May our generosity inspire hope.
May our compassion heal division.
May our faith remind someone of a Divine Nature they had forgotten they carried.
When we embody the qualities of Spirit, we become living evidence that Love works.
And isn’t that exactly what our world is aching to see?
The question was never whether Spirit is present.
The question is: what is Spirit becoming through me?
Affirmations
I embody the infinite abundance of Spirit in every area of my life.
I release every belief in limitation and joyfully welcome Divine Overflow.
I am a living expression of Divine Love, and through me, Spirit blesses the world.
Remember we are surrounded by Blessings & Light,
RevMichael (Kisumma)
