Back to Basics - What it Does

Each week this month,  we have intentionally returned to the fundamentals of the Science of Mind. Not because we’ve forgotten them, but because life has a way of adding complexity. And whenever things feel overwhelming, spiritual wisdom invites us to simplify.

So far this month, we’ve revisited The Thing Itself—that singular Power for Good in the universe that responds to consciousness; and How it Works, through us, as us, and for us by corresponding to our faith, belief and acceptance.  This week, we ask the natural next question:

What Does It Do?

What the Law Always Does

At its most basic level, the spiritual Law does one thing—and it does it perfectly:

It expresses whatever is impressed upon it through consciousness.

It doesn’t evaluate whether an idea is good or bad. It doesn’t question our readiness or worthiness. It doesn’t delay out of judgment or decide based on preference.

The Law responds.

Always.

Awakening Us from the Dream of Suffering

One of the most important things the Science of Mind teaches is that much of human suffering comes from misunderstanding how Life actually works. When we believe we are separate, unsupported, or alone, we naturally experience fear, lack, and struggle.

What the Law does is awaken us from that dream.

As we begin to understand that there is One Life and that we live within it—not outside of it—our perception shifts. We stop seeing ourselves as isolated individuals trying to get something from the universe and begin to recognize ourselves as expressions of a universal intelligence already moving toward good.

We can take this a step further by coming together in sacred community to practice, to listen and sit in the silence together. This we do in our weekly online Healing circles, Book Study and our Beloved Community gatherings starting back up this month in honor of the Season for Nonviolence.

In addition our Sahita circles and Ubuntu circles continue to explore how we are each other medicine and the power of coming together with the intention for healing and revealing.

Revealing Our Creative Partnership

What the Law does is not control our lives—it co-creates with us.

Thought, belief, faith, and expectation become creative partners with Principle. This is why the teaching is so empowering. We are not victims of circumstance; we are participants in creation.

The Law does not bring us what we want; it brings us what we consistently accept as true.

And once we understand that, responsibility replaces blame, and intention replaces reaction.

Awakening the Global Heart

As our individual consciousness awakens, something else happens as well: our circle of care expands.

What the Law does is dissolve the illusion of separation.

For years, we have gathered monthly in Beloved Community circles to witness healing, reconciliation, and racial harmony. These gatherings remind us that spiritual awakening is never meant to stop with the individual. As consciousness evolves, compassion naturally increases.

Spiritual understanding gives rise to spiritual activism—not rooted in anger, but in love, justice, and shared humanity.

When we awaken to One Life, we cannot ignore the well-being of the whole.

We are now sharing our learnings with the CSL Camp advisors to raise the consciousness of the camping experience for our youth and planning a teaching session for the CSL community worldwide to share with them what we have learned over the past 5 years of coming together monthly to listen and learn from one another.

Our Spiritual Activism now calls us to share the Good with our Global CSL community. In April we will present a workshop for ministers and centers nationwide so they can continue this vital work at their own centers.

From Inner Change to Outer Action

The Law does not ask us to withdraw from the world. It empowers us to engage it differently.

As consciousness changes:

  • Fear gives way to compassion

  • Separation gives way to belonging

  • Reaction gives way to response

What the Law does internally is reflected externally. A transformed mind naturally expresses itself as transformed action.

When It Seems Like Nothing Is Happening

Sometimes we wonder if the teaching is working—especially when change feels slow.

But the Law is never inactive. It is always accumulating the dominant patterns of belief. New awareness takes time to outweigh old conditioning. This is not denial; it is integration.

We are called to Stay consistent. Stay aligned. Stay clear. Know that the Power and Presence guides us to be the medicine for one another.

Back to Basics Practice

This week, keep it simple:

  • Notice the story you are telling about your life.

  • Choose thoughts that affirm unity rather than separation.

  • Speak words that reflect trust instead of fear.

  • Act as someone who knows they are supported by Life.

Let the Law do what it always does—respond.

Closing Reflection

What the Science of Mind teaching shows us is not just what God is, but what God does.

It awakens us. It heals the illusion of separation. It empowers us to live, love, and serve more fully.

Our Back to Basics practice reminds us that spiritual practice is not about escape—it is about embodiment.

As we align with Principle, Life expresses itself as greater peace, deeper connection, and a more compassionate world.

And that is what the Law does—every time.
